Roundtable
WINTER 2012
Welcome to the
website of the Long Island Museum Association (LIMA). At LIMA,
we offer numerous professional development roundtable
discussions to various sized museums and cultural institutions.
These programs have been well received for a number of years,
and so we plan to continue with this format and hold three
sessions during the coming year. Watch for flyers concerning the
dates and topics of the roundtables, and to renew your 2012
memberships. Also - remember to apply for our travel grant
program for volunteer and paid museum staffers. This program
will help fund attendance to any major museum conference up to
the amount of $1,000. A rarity in the field, we hope many of you
will see fit to apply for this grant. See below for the details
on how to apply.

at left! Your LIMA board is always on the lookout for new ideas
and discussion topics - please feel free to call or email me
with any suggestions!

LIMA Roundtable
This is the fourth of four roundtables for this year.
Special Education and Museums Document
If you attended the Roundtable on Special Education and Museums, you
will want to print or save the following document concerning the
issue. It contains a good deal of useful information on the
subject and was prepared by a parent of two special needs children
who works in the museum field.

Our Scholarship program:
LIMA has re-instituted our annual Scholarship program for member organizations. Members may request up to $1,000 in matching funds to attend a professional conference anywhere in the United States. Money may be spent on conference fees, airfare, hotels, and other related activities (LIMA will not fund entertainment/food/beverage). Applicant institutions must match the funds awarded by LIMA. To apply, please send the following to LIMA:
1. Letter which includes the name of your organization; conference you wish to attend; reason for attendance; and total amount requested from LIMA (up to $1,000).
2. If the applicant is not the Director of the organization, a letter of support from your Director should be included. If the applicant is the Director, a letter of support from the organization's Board President should be included.
3. Promotional information on the conference. Please note you must
submit an application no later than 8 weeks prior to the conference.
4. Budget that breaks down the costs of attendance; including what LIMA's funds will be used for and what the applicant institution will fund.
