  NEW YORK STATE COUNCIL ON THE ARTS (NYSCA)
INTERNSHIPS with Arts in Education Program  

The Arts in Education (AIE) Program is looking for several interns to work closely with the two-person Program staff.  This internship is available immediately.  For more information about NYSCA you may visit our website at www.nysca.org . Interns to assist in these areas:

1. Grants Application Intern:

Primary Duties include the Following:

~Review grantee applications and verify the completion of online supplemental information forms.

~Identify and catalog submitted supplemental materials in preparation for Panel Meetings.

~Assist with set-up conference room for Panel Meetings

~Take notes as needed during Panel Meetings.

Commitment and Duration:

Internship is available immediately. Commitment of 9-15 hours per week. This internship is ongoing.

2. AIE Website Intern:
Primary Duties include the Following:

~Serve as liaison between AIE program, constituent groups, and website developer.

~Coordinate and communicate comments and concerns (via email mostly) between AIE constituent groups and web developer.

~Submit brief summary updates to AIE Program staff as needed.

Commitment and Duration:
Internship is available immediately. Commitment of 9-15 hours per week. This internship will end in August 2007.

INTERNSHIP BENEFITS:
The internships are unpaid. They offer a flexible schedule in a friendly office environment. This is a great opportunity for a student, emerging arts-educator, or arts administrator who is interested in learning about public funding from within one of the leading state government agencies. Independent study credits are possible. AIE Staff will plan to include interns in the application process, such as meetings with AIE applicants, advisory panels, and the Council Board. Upon successful completion of the internship, AIE staff will be pleased to serve as a reference for the interns.

HILLWOOD ART MUSEUM LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY
Position: Director, Museum Education Programs

Position: Director, Museum Education Programs
Museum programs are designed to be interdisciplinary in nature, but are founded in the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts in the Visual Arts discipline. A museum visit provides a starting point for further examination of concepts encompassing math, science, social studies and language arts in the classroom. 

The Museum Education Director working with an education assistant is responsible for the design and implementation of all Pre-K – 12th grade education programs, outreach programs and Saturday Family Days. Education Director will work closely with the Museum staff in developing object-based exhibitions.

Position Benefits: This is a part-time position (3 days per week) maximum 1000 hours per 12month period. Starting salary is negotiable. Candidate must hold a minimum of an undergraduate degree in the art history, art education, art therapy or the visual arts. Position offers a modest tuition remission opportunity.

Job Title: ArtReach Director Full Time Position

Reports to:  Executive Director  Project Manager

Summary Description:  This job exists to chart the future course of FOTA’s renowned  Artreach arts-in-education program, which is at the core of FOTA’s mission.  The position involves creative direction of all aspects of the ArtReach program, and requires knowledge of arts-in-education philosophy and programs.  It also requires strong communication skills to represent ArtReach, and to encourage the growth of arts-in- education programs in school communities across Long Island. The ability to work with artists and schools to design and implement projects is an important component.

Principal Responsibilities:
* Administrative – Hands-on involvement with all aspects of the ArtReach program. Oversee fulfillment of contracts to artists and schools; records maintenance; payments; invoicing BOCES for reimbursements; communications and pre-performance materials to schools and artists; arrange logistics and attend school performances; schedule and facilitate school team meetings; develop and oversee assessment; develop and oversee new projects.

* Program Development – Demonstrate ongoing vision and creativity to bring new schools to the ArtReach program; manage school performances; develop initiatives in arts inclusion and other special projects; develop professional development and other workshops; continue Jazz Sampler project replication.  Coordinate special projects and events such as the Summer Jazz Ensemble Workshops for talented young musicians; work with artists to develop new programs and content for residencies; observe and evaluate artists; research and provide resources and suggested learning activities for programs.

* Grants – Assist in the preparation of program content for grant proposals for government and private funding; assist in cultivating existing and new ArtReach supporters; write updates and reports to funders and the FOTA Board.

* Communications – Assist in the preparation of all ArtReach marketing and communications materials, brochures, etc.; serve as a spokesperson to school communities and the general public on behalf of FOTA and its outstanding arts-in-education programs; attend conferences and workshops to keep abreast of arts-in-education philosophy and for networking purposes.
