Dear Colleague:

Welcome to an exciting new year with the Long Island Museum Association, Long Island’s only professional organization for museums, historical organizations and related fields!

For over 30 years, LIMA has been providing members with valuable professional development and networking opportunities. Benefits and activities include:

• The opportunity to apply for a members-only scholarship that provides funds for attendance at a professional conference anywhere in the United States.

• Discounted rates on attendance at informal “roundtable meetings” held at various venues across Long Island. We have been pleased to have a number of important museum professionals speak at these roundtables, each of which addresses a key topic affecting our member institutions. Past topics have included “Deaccessioning and Museums”, “Grant and Proposal Preparation Basics”, and “Developing a Fundraising Plan”.

• An invitation to the annual LIMA trip. Past destinations have included the Tenement Museum, the New York Botanical Garden and a behind-the-scenes tour at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

• A link on the enhanced LIMA website (www.LIMAmuseums.org) to your own institution’s website.

This year, we would like to continue to encourage greater use of the LIMA Listserv. This forum is an important tool which can be used to advertise events, discuss issues facing our local museums, locate professional services and even to arrange transfers or exchanges of collections items.
